Those who want to climb must “not” live in earthquake country. They haven’t a clue about the onset of aftershocks that will occur for the next year. This event is far from over. I have lived in southern California all my life and I have lived through the 94 Northridge earthquake (about a mile from the epicenter) and the 71 earthquake (10 miles away) with smaller Whittier Narrows, Landers quakes at some distance away. A 7.8 is is 300 times stronger than the 6.7 we had in Northridge. It will not be uncommon for after shocks of magnitude 5, 6, and even 7 category happening for the next year or two in this region… Avalanches and Rock slides danger will increase two fold…I value my life and I wouldn’t go near the Himalaya’s for at least 2 years..
