Cross library searches
PAPYRUS was a digital library search project. The setup of digital libraries including digitizing and classification of content has already consumed significant effort in the past years. Nonetheless there were no activities undertaken to make cross library searches available. For historians – for instance – it was not easy to conduct successful searches in news archives.
The goal of Papyrus was to close the gap of cross-discipline access to digital content archives. The project developed a digital library machine that takes in queries in the context of a specific discipline, looks for content in a domain alien to that discipline and returns the results presented in a way useful and comprehensive to the user.
Deutsche Welle was a user partner and contributed to news use case, validation and dissemination.
The project ran from Mar 2008 – Oct 2010
