Meet us @ Global Media Forum 2017

What is it?

GMF is a place where journalists, media managers, tech experts, NGO representatives, artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, civil servants and politicians get together to discuss the role of the media in a globalized world. To foster interdisciplinary exchange, GMF offers a wide range of panel discussions, workshops, networking sessions, interactive presentations and exhibitions as well as a top-notch leisure-time program.

The forum’s tenth instalment will take place under the motto “Identity and Diversity” and attract visitors from roughly 100 nations.

Here’s the (preliminary) program:

Day 1 (Monday, June 19th)
Day 2 (Tuesday, June 20th)
Day 3 (Wednesday, June 21th)

Why are we there?

Because it’s hosted by DW. Because it deals with basically everything we’re interested in. And because dw_innovation has been a part of it from the very beginning.

Time for a little trip down memory lane:

GMF, which is celebrating its 10th edition this year (check out all GMF programs since 2008 on this site), has always been a great opportunity to showcase our projects and invite interesting people from our network.

Cristiana Falcone, dw_innovation’s Wilfried Runde, and Brian Storm at GMF 2009. Behold the phone on the poster.

Over the years, this led to a series of remarkable contributions: from a compelling keynote by Brian Storm (founder of Mediastorm, former Director of Multimedia at MSNBC) to panels and interviews with Cristiana Falcone (Director of Media, Entertainment & Information Industries at the WEF), David Nordfors (then director of the Center for Innovation and Communication at Stanford University), Ulrik Hagerup (Mr. Constructive Journalism and Head of DR News), and Wilfried Ruetten (then director of the EJC) — to name but a few. We were even featured in the Guardian.

GMF 2016 saw dw_innovation’s most comprehensive contribution so far: In our dedicated “Innovation Lounge”, we discussed topics like robot and data journalism, virtual reality, content verification, recommendation engines and Lego serious play.
