Multicast and Mobile Services Field Trial
MCAST was a multicast technology and mobile services project. The research project covered two large-scale field trials of innovative multicasting technology and mobile media services on 2.5G and 3G cellular networks.
The objective was to understand and evaluate user needs and acceptance as to rich media multicast delivery to mobile devices, perform market analyses and develop business models. Rich media content services, with short multimedia clips featuring music, movie trailers, games and other entertaining content, as well as news highlights, were delivered via MCAST’s innovative multicasting platform in different large-scale field trials in Israel, Switzerland and Germany. The field trials provided insight into the needs for multicast services and next-generation cross-media production.
Deutsche Welle was MCAST coordinator and application partner and contributed as such to the overall management of the project, content provision, service development, and user testing.
