Truly Media Beta has crossed the finishing line

truly_website_pic

After 15 months of development, with around 15 people involved and about 15 organizations testing it and providing feedback, Truly Media is finally entering the commercial market. The Google DNI project, formerly known as Verify Media and carried about by DW’s Research & Cooperations Projects (DW Innovation) and ATC’s iLab, has come to a successful end. The result of all this effort is a commercial verification platform that allows journalists to aggregate and verify User-Generated-Content (UGC) in real-time. A key asset: all this can be done collaboratively.

REVEAL Workshop Review & Resources

On 20 Sep 2016 the REVEAL project, in which DW Innovation is heavily involved, conducted its final workshop. The full-day event was organised by the project consortium under the leadership of ATC’s iLab and DW Innovation Projects. Topic of the day: social newsgathering and verification of eyewitness media.

Almost 90 participants attended and joined in lively discussions about challenges and approaches regarding the use and verification of social media in news. Judging by the feedback received, and following comments on Twitter under the conference hashtag #smvw16, the day turned out to be a big success!

Video Verification Workflow Analysis

In the EU funded InVID project we are working hard on solutions to make verification of User Generated Video (UGV) easier and more trustworthy. Right now there are only a few tools to help journalists verify the authenticity of video materials from Social Networks. InVID aims to fill that gap, providing the means with which verification of UGV becomes easier and therefore allows journalists to use (more) trustworthy UGV in their reporting.

Verification of Social Media Video Content for the News Industry

InVID logoInVID (In Video Veritas) aims to assist in and partly automate the verification of videos captured by eyewitnesses, also referred to as user-generated content. A main goal is to make such videos usable for news providers for inclusion in their daily editorial work by developing a platform that provides services and features that detect, authenticate and check the reliability and accuracy of newsworthy video files spread via social networks.

Eyewitness Media and Verification

The REVEAL project, in which DW Innovation participates, deals – among others – with verification of eyewitness media (or user-generated content as it is still commonly referred to.) The project team develops algorithms & interfaces that are to aid in verification of content residing in Social Networks, evaluates the legal situation when it comes to social media analysis and processing, and looks at the market in the journalism and enterprise field. This contribution portrays the state of affairs in the area of verification of eyewitness media and investigates what this means for journalism.
