DW has added to its range of mobile content in China by making “Jojo sucht das Glück” available on the Tudou Video app. The app provides smartphone users in China with video content and has been one of the most popular since its introduction to the Chinese market in 2010. “Jojo” is DW’s award-winning soap opera for those looking to learn German.

America
With Congeco, DW has added a new television partner in Ontario, Canada. The cable provider has included the German-language television channel in its line-up and offering it as part of a German package for viewers throughout Ontario and Quebec. DW (Amerika) was also added by six networks that are part of the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA) – making it even more readily available to viewers in Ontario.

Europe
DW has expanded its cooperation with HRT. Croatian’s national TV station is integrating several new programs from DW into its lineup, including Global 3000, Tomorrow Today and Europe in Concert. In addition, HRT will start contributing to the DW series World Stories.

Online
DW has been lined up with other international broadcasters like BBC and Al Jazeera on Soundcloud’s World News section. DW has seen a lot of success over the past year on Soundcloud, which some have dubbed “YouTube for audio”. With the new categorization, DW’s English audio content will be even easier to find and listen to.

The DW Media Center has been expanded to offer programming in additional three languages: Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian.

DW involved in new environmental media project

China Business Network (CBN) launched a new media project dedicated to the topic of sustainability earlier this week: The Future We Want. Along with work from BBC Worldwide, CNN, TV5MONDE and Sky News, it will include five reports from DW’s Global Ideas multimedia series, which showcases projects from around the world geared towards promoting climate protection. A three-hour live TV show will be broadcast on CBN on December 31. It will also air a 24-hour video live stream on the topic in cooperation with online partners YouKu and BestTV. CBN belongs to the Shanghai Media Group and reaches an estimated audience of over 600 million viewers in China and beyond.

DW programming is now available on Xunlei-Kankan, one of the largest online video platforms in China. The platform has integrated clips from the magazines Global Ideas and Future Now, which have been translated into Chinese, as well as clips in English from shows like Arts.21, Discover Germany, Global 3000, In Good Shape, Made in Germany, Euromaxx, Drive It! und Tomorrow Today. Xunlei-Kankan has more than 260 million users.

In Pakistan, DW content is now available on smartphones via UFone. The provider now offers its more than 2 million mobile customers DW’s English television program.

Learning by Ear is now available for mobile users in Afghanistan with Afghan Wireless (AWCC). The mobile provider has more than 4 million subscribers throughout Afghanistan and is offering the series as content via its interactive voice response (IVR) system.

 

Latin America

DW has acquired another partner for its Spanish television channel in Latin America with Claro Peru. The second-largest television station in Peru will now include DW (Latinoamérica) in its digital TV package. Claro is part of the América Móvil group – the leading telecommunications provider in Latin America with more than 300 million customers.

 

Africa / Middle East

Shahid.net and DU are now featuring content from DW (Arabia) in their programming lineup. The two IPTV platforms are new to the media landscape in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

English episodes of Learning by Ear are now available on Vodafone Ghana. By working with Yassu, the Learning by Ear content will be available on all mobile phones as audio on demand.

New programming for Russia

DW has made further progress in the development of programming for Russia with its new television magazine “Geofactor”. DW’s Russian editorial team is responsible for producing the new show that will be broadcast every Saturday on Expert-TV.

The weekly magazine is 15 minutes long and was premiered on November 3. It covers politics and business, with a focus on the relationship between Russia, Germany and the rest of the European Union. Content comes from existing DW material and new content developed explicitly for “Geofactor” viewers.

Expert-TV reaches around 19 million viewers throughout Russia.

New television magazine in Bulgaria

DW is continuing ist expansion into the television market in central and southeastern Europe with its latest show “Evropa na Fokus” in Bulgaria. The 20-minute news magazine will be broadcast nationwide on BNT and is based on content from DW’s European Journal, Made in Germany, People and Politics and Arts.21. The show is being hosted by Yordanka Yordanova.

Following Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Turkish and Serbian editions, the Bulgarian show is DW’s ninth to be produced in its Bonn studios for the central and southeastern Europe target area.
