The future of clips and archives in Asia

In the latest issue of Content Asia, editors spoke to seven of the world’s leading clips and archive companies about challenges in Asia, Asia-related content, demand, trends and the adjustments they’ve had to make for a new connected environment. Among these experts, was DW’s Stefan Bliemsrieder.

What does he see as the biggest challenge in selling archive/news clips into Asia?

“Two challenges: presentation and content. Asian consumers like to watch online clips that are relevant to them and in their language. DW has started providing local language versions (e.g. Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia) to address this audience need in selected territories. The key challenge remains in the cost of localizing our content.”

A look at DISCOP

For our sales team, DISCOP has become one of the most important television conferences as it offers the opportunity to meet up with buyers who don’t necessarily end up at MIP. Our Director of Distribution, Petra Schneider, was interviewed for the latest edition of Video Age, which used its editorial to examine DISCOP and its potential.

Download the full editorial as a PDF: Video Age June Editorial on DISCOP.

“For us, DISCOP has always offered a way for our regional representatives to not only get out there and meet different buyers with different backgrounds, but also to offer us a way to get real insights into the regional media landscape. It still remains a very efficient way to meet with smaller, regional buyers.” – Petra Schneider

GMF revisited

Here is a great post from Frank Smyth, who moderated a few of the panels at last week’s DW Global Media Forum. More than 1,600 participants showed up to exchange their ideas on human rights and the media.

Another good bunch of articles covering the event can be found on the orangelog – a European Youth Press project.

Working with partners at the Global Media Forum

Our teams from both International Marketing and Sales worked with partners to help design some of this year’s panels at the DW Global Media Forum.

International Marketing worked with the University of Passau to help coordinate the panel looking at “International economic cooperation, human rights and the media – Business journalism as an early warning system”. Around 80 conference guests took part in the discussion, which examined how journalists in China, North Africa and Russia can act as a warning system.

Our Sales team responsible for the Americas also help organize the panel titled “Woman and human rights – Giving a voice to the voiceless”, which brought together a range of noteworthy women’s rights activists from Latin America – including Enriqueta Estela Barnes de Carlotto from the Association of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo.

Here is the full schedule of events for the Global Media Forum on Tuesday and Wednesday.
