‘Veiled, Unveiled: The headscarf’ uncovers head coverings

In much of the Western world today, the word headscarf is often automatically associated with those worn by women for religious reasons, especially Muslim women. Yet the idea and practice of covering one’s head with cloth transcends religious, cultural and geographic categories. The show “Veiled, Unveiled! The Headscarf” at Vienna’s Weltmuseum (World Museum) puts headscarf diversity on display.

Bonn is a culturally diverse city and one that appreciates the arts. I happened to visit the women’s museum in Bonn and was pleasantly surprised to see the wonderful installations on display there.

The Haji Ali shrine in Mumbai has banned the entry of women

Darul Uloom Deobandi, an Islamic seminary in Uttar Pradesh, India, recently warned Muslim women not to work as receptionists by issuing a Fatwa (Islamic religious ruling) that terms of the the job are un-Islamic and against the Sharia (Islamic law).
