Having some words for someone and trying to kill someone is not on the same level.

The comment of Mr. Bonington hit a big part of the reason. There are many climbers who couldn’t climb without the fixed ropes, but they do not pay anyting to the sherpas. Sherpas are underpaid in relation to the costs and danger of an expedition. That is a neglected problem since a long time.

Most conflicts have mutual mistakes and I imagine, back in the day,if there were climbers ignoring his pleas and knocking blocks of ice down onto him Sir Chris may have had some words for them in base camp.
