Congratulations to Ralf Dujmovits for making such an incredibly brave decision.

OK, wiped out, but still alive. I congratulate him for the good decision he made: turn back when it became too dangerous. He may try again later, or he may focus on other objectives. I wish I could always make wise decisions when faced with risky situations.

I’ve seen your stuff, it’s excellent, and I’m a fan. But if you were actually 50% genuine in what you say, what you publish, and present, we would not know who you are. You would be out there climbing, simply for joy and “experience,” and not for the attention and hype. One thing for sure though, you would definitely not be hanging with Adrian Ballinger. That is one individual who is DEFINITELY out in the mountains for the wrong reasons. There is not room for infighting in our tribe, but that is one individual that simply does not belong.

1.What interest does Esteban Mena have, especially considering that Adrian Ballinger is paying him.
2. What interest does Ralf Dujmovits have to not tell the truth?

It’s pretty obvious and in black and white where the truth is, especially considering the social media attention whore that Adrian Ballinger is.

In fact he’s not casting judgement at all. It’s an interview. The purpose of an interview is to present someone’s personality to the reader. It does that very well.

Most people reading the last two paragraphs will have dismissed Dujmovits claims as sour grapes by someone who is disappointed and slightly embittered. Until you guys waded in. Now we see your personalities too.

We enjoy reading Stefan’s blog because he’s independent, and doesn’t let himself get bullied by climbers worried by their image. It’s a different type of journalism from what you might read in Outside magazine, for example. But his readers appreciate him for it.

As for the in-fighting in your tribe, well that was your choice, not Stefan’s.

Congratulations on your Everest summits from someone who has climbed the north side with supplementary oxygen. I take my hat off to all of you. You should all just let your achievements speak for themselves.

That said, it’s not Topo’s word against Ralph’s. Topo was there. His ‘word’ is corroborated by Pasang and Palden. Ralph simply wasn’t there. Adrian had a great team that supported his ascent and decent. This argument is, quite frankly, asinine. Adrian earned every step of his summit. Both Ralph and Adrian should be proud of their respective efforts… this is an indiscriminate game and people have drastically different experiences on the exact same day. One thing is certain… there is no room for infighting in our tribe… it’s too small.

It’s his words against yours.

By: Esteban Mena https://blogs.dw.com/adventuresports/ralf-dujmovits-for-me-thats-lying/#comment-1073 Tue, 30 May 2017 04:05:17 +0000 http://blogs.dw.com/adventuresports/?p=30569#comment-1073 I am Esteban “Topo” Mena, the ecuadorian who climbed with Adrian Ballinger on the 27th of May. I climbed Everest with him all the way up and down from BC, and I can say that he was never short roped on the descent as Ralf wrongly affirms on this interview. This information is not correct and should be corrected immediately. Our complete team of Adrian, Cory, Palden, Mingma, Pasang Rinnji and me could give you an interview to tell all the details of our climb, which has always been public thru our social media. Thanks!

We can all understand his terrible disapointment…
Maybe he will try again after swallowing this fail, despite what he told previously…
I hope so.

Peter
