I went to a climate change seminar where two professionals talked about the economic side of climate change. Their message was that we must concentrate our efforts on energy effeciency (using less energy by reducing energy demand, providing the appropriate amount of energy based on demand, and maximizing energy output for some given process) first and then move on to using more of alternative energy forms. They also suggested utilizing multiple solutions to climate change rather than one alone.
Having taken a class dealing with energy generating systems like coal plants, gas turbine plants, and the like I was able to appreciate their message.
In the United States, where Arnold Schwarznegar is committed to crushing/terminating older cars with high emissions perhaps the best solution to climate change is to make Arnold our emperor.
