Hi Irene!
I have tried to comment earlier but with no success. It has indeed been expected that we will see more polar bears going ashore if the ice conditions worsen. This could also mean higher risks for people. In recent years it could seem like more polar bears have been close to scientists in Northeast Greenland but no proper study or analysis have been made. If more scientist are around it will be more likely to meet polar bears even if they are not more numerous. The IUCN polar bear specialist group are working on a database to collect information on polar bear sightings and incidences, that will be very valuable as a tool to gain more experience.
