Meet us @ news:rewired
Social search and virtual reality
When: 16 July 2015
Where: MSN HQ, Cardinal Place, London, UK
What is it?
news:rewired is one of Europe’s prime conferences for digital journalism. Created and organised by journalism.co.uk, the (soon to be) quarterly event showcases the latest in tools and trends in digital journalism, with a focus on practical advice for working journalists at any level.
The organizers have produced an impressive line-up for an action-packed day, including a keynote speech by Emily Bell, Director of the Tow Centre for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, and Jessica Yu, the Global Head of Visuals at the Wall Street Journal. Topics to be discussed range from dealing with user-generated content/eyewitness media to mobile reporting and virtual reality in news. The event is hosted at Microsoft headquarters in the centre of London.
Why are we there?
We are participating in the event to share our experience in verifying user-generated content and eyewitness media. This includes our work in the EC co-funded research project REVEAL, an undertaking that deals with a variety of research challenges in the field of social media verification and analysis.
Our Jochen Spangenberg will be part of the afternoon session entitled “Sourcing stories on social media” where he will deliver a short presentation. This will be followed by a discussion round with Dhruti Shah, UGC producer at BBC News, and James Neufeld, founder of SAM Desk. The panel will be moderated by John Crowley, digital editor at The Wall Street Journal.
The conference also includes a sessions entitled “Unheard voices, untold stories” in which our Deutsche Welle colleague Fabian von der Mark will talk about DW’s new offer Life Links, highlighting how Deutsche Welle is engaging with its audience.
For more details about the day’s program and speakers, visit the conference agenda.
We will be reporting about news:rewired via our Twitter channel as well as Reveal’s Twitter presence. The hashtag for the news:rewired conference is #newsrw and there is a Twitter list of most of the speakers online.
Of course, you can get in touch with DW Innovation’s Jochen Spangenberg, who will be present in London on 16 July, at any time – be it before, at or after the event.
