After 15 months of development, with around 15 people involved and about 15 organizations testing it and providing feedback, Truly Media is finally entering the commercial market. The Google DNI project, formerly known as Verify Media and carried about by DW’s Research & Cooperations Projects (DW Innovation) and ATC’s iLab, has come to a successful end. The result of all this effort is a commercial verification platform that allows journalists to aggregate and verify User-Generated-Content (UGC) in real-time. A key asset: all this can be done collaboratively.

No worries: The summer break is long over. It only took us a while to write a thorough Fader update post. Because everybody in the consortium (DW Innovation, Euronews, Vragments) has been really busy.
We – or more precisely: the alpha geeks among us — gave the editor/platform a couple of cool new features. We also attended and/or hosted several interesting VR/360 events in the last couple of months. And we made sure Fader won’t run out of fresh content anytime soon.
Here’s a quick overview of what we’ve achieved since the beginning of August.

When creating new digital tools and systems for journalists, there are usually two main challenges: The first is to design and develop new functions and interfaces. The second is to understand and act on the business issues associated with the emerging product. This post is about the second challenge – which sometimes seems more difficult to tackle. Or even tends to be overlooked.

VR Conference = a one day event that brings together all kinds of VR enthusiasts (journalists, storytellers, media innovators, techies) to share experiences and seek inspiration. This is much more structured and focused, and you will need to purchase a ticket.

The InVID research project releases a plug-in that supports journalists in verifying videos
One of the research projects in which we are involved is InVID – ‘In Video Veritas’. The project, running from 2016 until the end of 2018, deals with various aspects of video verification. This includes investigating legal aspects, supporting rights clearance processes, and above all the development and testing of tools and modules that support and part-automate the verification of videos.
Half-way into the project’s duration, the project is pleased that first results can be made available to the public and, in particular, the verification community.
