Tuyang Initiative – Helping indigenous community on Borneo
The Tuyang Initiative was co-founded by Juvita Tatan Wan and her father John Wan Usang to foster the inclusive development and promotion of Dayak cultural heritage talents, products and services.
Dayak refers to the various groups of indigenous peoples from the island of Borneo. The word “Tuyang” means “friend” in the Kenyah (a Dayak sub-ethnic group) language.
In June 2018, the Tuyang Initiative worked with the Singapore Botanic Gardens on the opening of the new Ethnobotany Centre and Garden. The Tuyang Initiative delivered traditional craft products for exhibition as well as live craft demonstrations.
