You’ve probably heard about the Ice Bucket challenge, but an Indian journalist has organized a “Rice Bucket Challenge” to help the poor and needy.
The Ice Bucket Challenge began as a way of promoting awareness about a disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Patients suffering from the ailment slowly lose the capacity to use their muscles. In advanced stages, the patient is unable to speak or even breathe. Several celebrities around the world have poured buckets of ice water over themselves to create awareness and raise funds for ALS patients.

Now, Manju Latha Kalanidhi, an Indian journalist, has come up with the idea of giving rice to the poor and needy instead of pouring ice water. As expected, her initiative has been well received!
You can watch her interview with NDTV here:
The Rice Bucket Challenge also has its own Facebook page with nearly 42,000 followers. Users gift a “bucket” of rice to people, click a picture of themselves and post it on Facebook. Other users comment and like the picture of the person who donates a bucket of rice to the poor.
