Only this time around, is not a “migrant” worker who can be pinned down as a rapist because he didn’t know any better in a city full of “loose” women. This time it is someone from our own fraternity: Tarun Tejpal. He is the editor-in-chief and founder of Tehelka (literally meaning storm), an independent website known for its sting operations that have uncovered several scams and shaken governments in the past. “Free, fair, fearless” is the motto of the publication.

She is not only the first woman to hold the office since 2005, she is now also the first woman to be elected back into the office for a third time consecutively. British Paper, the Guardian, pointed out that Merkel is on her way to overtake Margaret Thatcher as the longest-serving female leader.

24-year-old Nina Davuluri from New York has become the first woman of Indian origin to be crowned Miss America. Daughter of an Indian-American gynaecologist, Nina now wants to use the money she won at the pageant to pursue a medical career. She already has a degree in brain behavior and cognitive science from the University of Michigan.

Bollywood in Germany
As an Indian living in Germany, I try to hold on to as much “Indian-ness” I can possibly get. During one of my efforts to try and stay in tune with India, I went to a Bollywood dance workshop in Cologne. My curiosity grew when I found out that a German woman was conducting the workshop.

Revolution- not for women
Tahrir Square was transformed into a huge party venue on Wednesday for those celebrating the ousting of President Morsi. Fireworks lit up the night sky and the crowds were ecstatic. This time, the battle was not against a dictator but against a democratically elected government. President Morsi was overthrown by the military with the support of the people who had resolved not to let Islamists take over their country. He pushed to impose Islamist views of the Muslim Brotherhood and this was against what the Egyptian liberals stood for. So they took to the streets and called for a revolution. However, this revolution has a dark side.
