Emmy from Kenya
“I am a child of the countryside and moved to Nairobi as a teenager,” Emmy says. In the capital of Kenya, she finished high school and started studying German and special education at Kenyatta University with plans of becoming a teacher. But her interest in news, radio and television led her to continue studying after she finished her undergraduate degree. She received a scholarship from Deutsche Welle to study for a Masters Degree in International Media Studies in Germany. Now she has returned to Nairobi and works as a PR assistant in a Kenyan NGO. Emmy has six siblings, all of whom attend school or university. In moving to Germany, Emmy took a cue from her father, who spent a year studying in the United Kingdom. He believes it is important to get exposure to different countries and cultures – a view which Emmy shares.
