Smolensk, Russia
Smolensk lies in western Russia, close to the border to Belarus. The city is home to around 318,000 residents and is considered a center of trade, culture and education. Machine, textile and food production make up Smolensk’s industrial backbone. The city is home to a wide array of higher education institutions, including universities, academies and institutes. The University of Smolensk, a public university divided into ten departments, was founded in 1918. Nearly every course of study is available in Smolensk – from the humanities and natural sciences to economics or sport.
