What drives young Gambians to risk their lives and flee to Europe? At a recent town hall meeting in the capital Banjul, representatives from DW's African distribution and programming departments gathered for a discussion with locals and former refugees.

There is a high demand for quality media in Africa but in many places network infrastructure cannot keep up. A positive aspect of this technological disparity is that it promotes the development of alternative services, which provide access to media by getting around network deficiencies.

A DW web documentary was highly commended by the Association of International Broadcasting (AIB) at the media excellence awards ceremony in London.  Serengeti– Towards an uncertain future takes an up-close and interactive look at the unique natural beauty of this famous national park and addresses the tough challenges of conservation.
