Making culture count in Brazil with the new series Camarote.21
Camarote.21 – DW’s new series in Portuguese for Brazil – will debut this weekend on Rede Minas. It features the latest events and trends from the world of European music, literature, art and film and will be shown every Sunday.
Brazilian born host, Francis França is excited by the possibility to convey German and European culture to a Brazilian audience. “Culture offers a wide range of possibilities to convey and transport information,” she said, “culture has many expressive forms and is not necessarily limited by language.” She hopes the show will help connect Brazil and Germany and foster understanding and an intercultural dialogue. França also frequently invites Brazilian artists into the studio who are either currently based in or travelling through Germany.
Camarote.21 builds on DW’s Portuguese language programming in Brazil. On October 1o the Brazilian educational broadcaster Canal Futura began broadcasting the successful science magazine Futurando. The channel can be received by a potential audience of 94 million nationwide.
New television magazine in Bulgaria
DW is continuing ist expansion into the television market in central and southeastern Europe with its latest show “Evropa na Fokus” in Bulgaria. The 20-minute news magazine will be broadcast nationwide on BNT and is based on content from DW’s European Journal, Made in Germany, People and Politics and Arts.21. The show is being hosted by Yordanka Yordanova.
Following Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Turkish and Serbian editions, the Bulgarian show is DW’s ninth to be produced in its Bonn studios for the central and southeastern Europe target area.

Clicks on DW’s Polish-language site have gotten a major boost thanks to partnerships with Poland’s three leading online portals, Gazeta.pl, Wirtualna Polska (wp.pl) and Gazetapraca.pl. The click count jumped from 251,000 in April 2012 to 2.5 million in June. Working in tandem with Distribution, the three Polish sites posted links to selected articles about society and politics as well as DW’s “Studying in Germany” series.
Asia
A new Asian partner has gotten on board with TV magazine “Inovator,” which is produced in Bonn. Indonesia’s Tempo TV started broadcasting the show nationwide in August. “Inovator” is the seventh DW TV magazine the education-oriented station has picked up since August 2011. Tempo TV will broadcast “Inovator” via DTH satellite provider Aora, which has about 450,000 subscribers in Indonesia and is one of the country’s main television platforms.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, teachers at the respected Deutsche Zentrum have received supplementary learning materials to use DW’s online German course in the classroom.
DW has begun using a new monitoring station in Sydney to keep track of satellite broadcasts and live streams in the region. Technical Distribution has set up a system for monitoring Asiasat 3S as well as a StreamMon system at Australian national broadcaster SBS. Distribution entered negotiations with SBS once the establishment of a relay station in Tincomalee, Sri Lanka made the previous monitoring station for Asiasat 3 obsolete. DW now has StreamMon systems operating on every continent.
Last but not least, leading Pakistani outlet Raml Media Services is now a DW partner. The firm, which has been in operation 30 years, will help distribute DW live streams and content boxes to other partners.
‘Panorama’ premiere in Macedonia
DW is now working with Alfa TV to coproduce a Macedonian television magazine about Europe and its people. “Evro Panorama” was broadcast for the first time last Sunday and will be every week during primetime. The initial feedback has been really positive. Many viewers have already commented about the interesting insights that are offered on Europeans and their daily lives – which is something that has been missing in the Macedonian media landscape up until now. The half-hour show is hosted by Alexander Metodijev.
This is the sixth version of DW’s European-themed magazine that were developed by the editorial teams in Bonn, with other variations being offered in Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian and Bosnian. The program is based on European Journal which has been produced in DW’s Studio in Brussels since 1992. A Spanish version of European Journal was also developed this past February as part of DW’s relaunch.
Premiere for ‘Euro Panorama’ in Bosnia
DW has developed a new television series for Bosnia that is being aired on BHT1. “Euro Panorma” premiered on Saturday, February 11 during primetime in Bosnia and can already be viewed as a huge success. The 24-minute program reports on the week in news across Europe and BHT1 wants to establish it is a flagship for European reporting. BHT1’s director general said the program should open a window to Europe for viewers in Bosnia.
A standard component for the new magazine is a review of the media as well as commentary and analysis of the German media. Every episode also features a discussion between the show’s hosts and experts that will expand on the week’s main issues to provide more in-depth information. This is already DW’s fourth coproduction with partners in Southeast Europe.
