Lives On The Edge: Clearing Landmine

Till a year ago, she could not have ever imagined that she would be working in a minefield every day, strapping on 25 kilograms of equipment to search for the very explosives that used to give her nightmares as a child. Today, though she can identify 10 different types of mines just by sight and, over time, the minefield has become familiar territory.

Atrocities on women in India: ‘It’s not just a gender problem.’

In the backdrop of the numerous reported cases of rapes, gang rapes and widely visible discrimination against women in India, the German author, artist and social worker Dr. Katharina Poggendorf-Kakar spoke about the India-specific form of such violent acts. Dr. Poggendorf has lived in India since 2003 and travelled extensively through India to understand the basis of such atrocities on women.

Footballers in Nepal Warm Up to Gender Justice

Talking about ‘real men’ and helping young men to discover their potential to contribute to a better societ is a challenge so Bandana Rana has roped in Nepal’s men in the struggle for gender justice. Having collaborated with the All Nepal Football Association, Rana, who is President of the Nepali non- government organisation, Saathi, has shown how footballers from around 500 clubs in the Himalayan nation can learn skills for societal team building. In a one-on-one with Anita Katyal she elaborateson  her work in Nepal and shares her experiences.
