DW on tour in Africa

One of DW’s journalists is taking a tour of Africa from Cairo to Cape Town… on a bike. Peter Hille is part of the “Tour d’Afrique” and is blogging about his experiences as he bicycles through the continent. He is asking people along the way what they expect from Germany’s international broadcaster.

Looking for future journalists in Kano

DW is in Nigeria this week looking for extraordinary journalistic talent. Under the motto “Social media: a challenge for journalism”, Germany’s international broadcaster developed a contest to award the best up-and-coming journalists in Kano. Entries were received as both audio reports and articles.

This project represents more than three and a half years of cooperation with Freedom Radio in Nigeria. It is also the first time that Deutsche Welle has worked with Bayero University.

Winners will be chosen by a jury made up of experts from DW’s partners Freedom Radio and Freedom Express, the faculty from the Department of Mass Communications at the Bayero University, and an independent journalist. The award ceremony will also feature a podium discussion about the impact of social media on Nigerian journalism in the future.

A look at DISCOP

For our sales team, DISCOP has become one of the most important television conferences as it offers the opportunity to meet up with buyers who don’t necessarily end up at MIP. Our Director of Distribution, Petra Schneider, was interviewed for the latest edition of Video Age, which used its editorial to examine DISCOP and its potential.

Download the full editorial as a PDF: Video Age June Editorial on DISCOP.

“For us, DISCOP has always offered a way for our regional representatives to not only get out there and meet different buyers with different backgrounds, but also to offer us a way to get real insights into the regional media landscape. It still remains a very efficient way to meet with smaller, regional buyers.” – Petra Schneider
