Wagner comes alive in Buenos Aires

In honor of Richard Wagner’s 200th birthday, DW is producing a documentary titled, The Colón Ring – Wagner in Buenos Aires. The program follows the legendary opera house Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as its members stage a never before seen 7-hour  condensed version of Wagner’s powerful musical drama, “The Ring of the Nibelung”. The film premiered to an audience of 600 at the Delphi Filmpalast in Berlin on April 14 and drew warm applause and much praise. Global audiences can look forward to the television debut on DW scheduled for May 11 and 18, just before Wagner’s birthday on May 22. The two-part documentary will be broadcast in German, English, Spanish and Arabic. The DVD and Blu-ray box set, which include the performance itself, are also scheduled for release in May. Michael Wigge takes on Germany with a scooter

DW’s resident international travel guru has a new adventure lined up for our lifestyle show Euromaxx. The roving reporter will be riding a scooter through Germany from north to south, covering 2,473 kilometers along the way. Germany by Scooter will start airing in August but you can get a sneak peek today.

Wigge has become somewhat of an obscure star in the past year. He has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno (alongside Katy Perry) as well as on the Huffington Post.

DW and Vodafone make education easier in Ghana

DW has signed an agreement with Vodafone Ghana to make its popular educational program Learning by Ear available as on-demand content for subscribers using Vodafone Live Radio. All Vodafone Ghana customers can access the audio content by using the DW section of Vodafone Live Radio at a set price of 0.9 Pesewa per minute. Customers just need to dial 313 from their mobile phone to subscribe to the Vodafone Live Radio service and follow the instructions on how to access the DW programs.

Learning by Ear programming is targeted at teenagers and young adults and provides information on important topics like HIV/Aids, human rights, de-mocracy and the environment with an exciting mix of stories and features. It is part of the DW radio program lineup for Africa and is being rebroadcast by more than 25 partner stations in Ghana.

Vodafone Ghana launched the Live Radio service on January 18, 2013. With over 3,300 subscribers already, it is proving to be one of the most innovative value added services that Vodafone is offering to its customers.
