Online
After a successful pilot phase, DW will continue working with Psiphon Inc. to reroute content to users living in countries where Internet censorship remains a major problem. Users only need to download the required software and then access the content via a proxy server, a Windows application or an app for mobile devices. The service was heavily used during the latest presidential race in Iran and ensures that DW can deliver reliable information to users worldwide.

DW has improved the quality of the live streams (Flash) for each of its television feeds was improved to offer users a better viewing experience. The new resolution (1024×576 pixels, 1.5 MBit/s) can be accessed by clicking the SHQ icon in the DW live player or at mediacenter.dw.com.

Middle East
DW now has a new online partner in the Middle East: Alhewar. The website focuses on politics and culture and is especially popular among Arabic authors. Alhewar has also proven to be a real social media expert, with more than 1 million Facebook fans.

DW has signed a new partnership with the only Arabic television broadcaster in Israel. DW will provide Hala TV with award-winning content like Euromaxx, as well as other TV programming including Drive it! and Made in Germany. Hala TV is available via satellite.

Global Media Forum underway

DW celebrates 60 years of service at the Global Media Forum: Erik Bettermann (Director General, Deutsche Welle) and Dr Guido Westerwelle (German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs)

Even if you aren’t in Bonn, you can get involved in the sixth Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum. You can tune in to the live stream from the main session or go to the website to get more detailed information. You can also follow the conference on Twitter and watch footage from past conference events on YouTube. A highlight from yesterday was Avram Noam Chomsky’s keynote.

DW iPhone App update now available

DW has now released a new version of the DW News Portal – it’s iPhone app. The new version makes it easier to share content via social media – allowing users to post articles and videos directly to Facebook and Twitter, or send them via e-mail.

The DW News Portal offers live streams in German, English, Russian and several Asian languages as well as background information and current news from politics, business, science, German Bundesliga, culture and lifestyle. The App is also available for Android devices.

As part of an agreement with the second-largest TV manufacturer, LG Electronics will begin programming apps for DW that will be available on so-called smart TVs. These apps will make it possible for customers to access multilingual content from DW right from their living room.

Latin America
DW is now available GVT, a pay TV platform from Vivendi, dramatically increasing its presence in Brazil. On October 1, DW was made available on the pay TV platform, which makes use of a hybrid broadcast (DTH/IPTV). This is the first platform of its kind in Brazil. It makes it possible to receive programming via DRH and, at the same time, use interactive elements like video-on-demand via IPTV. GVT offers more than 140 channels in three different packages – and Vivendi is expecting a lot of growth in this sector in the next year.

Africa
DW has signed an agreement to work with DBS TV in Cameroon, a station that is based in Douala and available in Africa, Europe, North and South America. Along with taking on DW programming, DBS TV will work with Germany’s international broadcaster on a weekly coproduction in the future.

Asia
TempoTV in Indonesia has integrated several of DW’s television shows into its line-up, including In Focus, Bundesliga Kickoff, European Journal, Kino, Global 3000, in good shape and tomorrow today. TempoTV is available nationwide and specializes in educational programming. It is available on AORA – a DTH satellite platform – and reaches approximately 400,000 subscribers.

Also in Indonesia, IPTV provider Groovia has been broadcasting DW-TV ASIA+ since July after signing an agreement with DW. Groovia has more than 100 TV channels.

Europe
DW’s is now available on Crystal TV – an online provider. The platform makes it possible for customers with PCs, Macs, smartphones, tablets and iPods to access video DW’s video live stream.
