Talented African journalists tell their stories

African journalists have long voiced their concerns about the way Africa is often misrepresented in the media of developed countries.There's no single Africa. It's a vast continent. A continent of diverse peoples and a continent with complex problems to solve.

African Stories is an opportunity to start setting the record straight by supporting African journalists to tell their stories the African way. How do they see their own country and their continent? What issues do they consider relevant? What stories do they want to tell?

This project will enable talented African journalists to tell their stories by producing attractive and professional television reports and documentaries – offering their audience an African perspective on important issues such as health, education, good governance, environmental protection, economic development and poverty reduction.

Every TV station taking part in the project will be allowed to broadcast all of the reports. In this way, each report can be shown not only by the home station of each participant, but also by the other stations involved in the project – over 30 of them – giving the authors a voice throughout the entire continent.

And as part of a series of co-productions with Deutsche Welle journalists, African participants will also be able to reach Germany, Europe and the world with their stories.
