Asia
DW has signed an agreement with Apalya – India’s largest sales platform for mobile television. This agreement makes it possible for customers from India’s 12 leading mobile providers – including Vodafone and Reliance – to access the DW-TV ASIA+ livestream over GPRS by using MimobiTV. Just another addition to DW’s mobile presence in India and throughout the region.

Europe
DW-TV is now available on Zon – the leading provider in Portugal. The Pay TV channel has included the full DW-TV channel into its “Funtastic” and “Digital” packages. Zon has more than 1.3 million subscribers in Portugal.

Africa
Deutsche Welle (DW) has entered into agreements with Télévision Tunisienne und Hannibal TV. The two channels will integrate current shows, magazines and background features as part of their programming.

DW signs agreement with Tunisian TV stations

Just a few weeks following the end of the authoritarian regime in Tunisia, Deutsche Welle (DW) has agreed to work with Télévision Tunisienne und Hannibal TV. The two channels will integrate current shows, magazines and background features as part of their programming.

Hannibal TV is one of the largest private stations in the country and has been broadcasting the Arabic version of DW’s Journal since May 1. The station will also be showing the talkshow Quadriga and In Focus – a series of documentaries.

The public broadcaster Télévision Tunisienne also agreed to broadcast DW programming, including the Arabic versions of Quadriga and In Focus, as well as the magazines Tomorrow Today and euromaxx.

In addition, DW-AKADEMIE was included in the partnership agreement and will work with the new partners to help provide journalistic training.

DW picks up prizes at festivals in NY and Hamburg

Deutsche Welle was recognized this past week by the New York Festivals and World Media Festival in Hamburg for its work in television and online.

New York Festivals recognize the "World's Best Work" in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment program as well as in music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and ID's.

Deutsche Welle received a Finalist Certificate in the Human Interest category for its segment entitled "Money for freedom". It also picked up a Bronze World Medal for Best Animation for "Walled In! – The inner German border". The series "Global Ideas" also went away with a Finalist Certificate for Information/Magazine Opener & Titles.

At the World Media Festival in Hamburg, Deutsche Well picked up four awards for its series "Politik Direkt".

Market roundup: April 2011

Asia
Asia Television Hong Kong (ATV) agreed in February to include even more magazines from DW-TV ASIA+ in its programming palette. The new additions include "Drive It", "In Good Shape" and "Global 3000". ATV is one of the most popular channels in Hong Kong and has a technical reach of more than 7 million viewers. ATV now carries seven shows from Deutsche Welle, including “European Journal” which is broadcast with subtitles in traditional Chinese.

Europe
DW-TV has now been included in the IPTV line-up from Optimus – one of the three largest mobile operators in Portugal. Optimus uses the so-called “RF Overlay” technology, along with Vodafone Portugal. This offers Vodafone subscribers access to Optimus programming and vice-versa.

Latin America
The state-run telecommunications firm Grupo ICE in Costa Rica will now include DW-TV in its IPTV line-up. ICE is responsible for the entire telecommunications infrastructure and power in Costa Rica and has already laid fiber optic cable in the country to connect residents to the international digital cable network. The IPTV service began this month and DW-TV will be included in the basic package.
