New television magazine in Bulgaria
DW is continuing ist expansion into the television market in central and southeastern Europe with its latest show “Evropa na Fokus” in Bulgaria. The 20-minute news magazine will be broadcast nationwide on BNT and is based on content from DW’s European Journal, Made in Germany, People and Politics and Arts.21. The show is being hosted by Yordanka Yordanova.
Following Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Turkish and Serbian editions, the Bulgarian show is DW’s ninth to be produced in its Bonn studios for the central and southeastern Europe target area.
DW’s Urdu news a ‘first’ in Pakistan
Pakistan’s largest private radio network, Radio FM 100, is now integrating news from Deutsche Welle into its line-up. News from DW’s Urdu service will be broadcast eight times daily, as well as including several magazines and English-language programming.
Nadeem Siddiqui, DW’s sales representative in Pakistan, is convinced this partnership will lead to success. “This step wil definitelyl increase DW’s brand recognition. DW is the first international broadcaster to sign such a major cooperation agreement for news in Pakistan. That puts us a step ahead of the competition.”
FM 100 has quickly become one of the largest radio networks in Pakistan, with coverage in major cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Hyderabad. The station is also looking to expand into Multan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Abbottabad and Rahim Yar.
DW signs agreement with Tunisian TV stations
Just a few weeks following the end of the authoritarian regime in Tunisia, Deutsche Welle (DW) has agreed to work with Télévision Tunisienne und Hannibal TV. The two channels will integrate current shows, magazines and background features as part of their programming.
Hannibal TV is one of the largest private stations in the country and has been broadcasting the Arabic version of DW’s Journal since May 1. The station will also be showing the talkshow Quadriga and In Focus – a series of documentaries.
The public broadcaster Télévision Tunisienne also agreed to broadcast DW programming, including the Arabic versions of Quadriga and In Focus, as well as the magazines Tomorrow Today and euromaxx.
In addition, DW-AKADEMIE was included in the partnership agreement and will work with the new partners to help provide journalistic training.
DW picks up prizes at festivals in NY and Hamburg
Deutsche Welle was recognized this past week by the New York Festivals and World Media Festival in Hamburg for its work in television and online.
New York Festivals recognize the "World's Best Work" in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment program as well as in music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and ID's.
Deutsche Welle received a Finalist Certificate in the Human Interest category for its segment entitled "Money for freedom". It also picked up a Bronze World Medal for Best Animation for "Walled In! – The inner German border". The series "Global Ideas" also went away with a Finalist Certificate for Information/Magazine Opener & Titles.
At the World Media Festival in Hamburg, Deutsche Well picked up four awards for its series "Politik Direkt".
DW News Portal now available for Android
Along with our version for the iPhone, the Deutsche Welle News Portal is now available for Android devices as well. It features articles from DW-WORLD.DE, the audio live stream from DW-RADIO and a video live stream from DW-TV and is available for free in 11 different languages.
