DW has a new broadcasting partner in Indonesia. PT Riau Media Televisi is now broadcasting Inovator, DW’s science program for Indonesia, every week to a potential 250, 000 households in the Sumatran city of Pekanbaru.

DW’s online German language courses are now available to users in China via the German information center from the Beijing embassy. The courses are linked on the Chinese “Twitter” Weibo and the Chinese instant message service Wechat.

Live streams from DW are now available to viewers on the state-owned Pakistani live stream service PI Television.

Mobile

DW content is now available on more mobile devices in Ghana thanks to a new partnership with Accra-based mobile aggregator and app developer Rancard Solutions. Rancard will be providing DW content on everything from text messages to news and audio apps. Starting in October, DW content in Ghana will be available with the telecommunications providers MTN, Vodafone and Tigo. An expansion to Nigeria is planned for November.

Asia

DW has expanded its partnership with the Vietnamese telecommunications provider FPT. The cooperation will add DW‘s new English channel to the line up on FPT’s over-the-top (OTT) television service, bringing DW to another 5 million users across Vietnam. DW’s English channel is also currently available on FPT’s IPTV service on Channel 37. DW on FPT Play is an expansion on FTP‘s IPTV service, which has carried DW since 2009.

The Indonesian TV provider Sky LBS is now broadcasting DW’s English channel via cable, satellite and IPTV nationwide. Sky LBS can reach up to 35.8 households and has 123 national and international channels in its portfolio.

In Pakistan, DW is now available as a TV live stream on the website for FM 100. The website is one of the most popular in the country.

 

Latin America

DW has acquired its first web TV partner in Peru with Canal E. The online TV provider was launched in 2014 and offers educational and informational programming on its platform www.canale.pe an. Currently, Canal E is broadcasting Visión futuro from DW (Latinoamérica).

 

Asia

DW’s new global English news channel is now available in Afghanistan via satellite after a three-year contract was closed with the satellite provider Afghanistan Broadcasting System. The satellite Afghansat 1 is operated by Eutelsat and will carry 60 international and national channels to a potential 1,5 million subscribers.

Sky LBS can reach a potential 35.8 million households and has 123 national and international channels in its portfolio.

DW Akademie has opened a new office in Yangon, Myanmar in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).  The primary activities of DW Akademie in Myanmar are supporting the transformation of the state broadcaster MRTV and the construction and development of the first private journalism school in Myanmar, Myanmar Journalism Institute. DW Akademie has been active in Myanmar since 2009.

 

Europe

DW  has partnered with the German UNESCO commission and the German Federal Foreign Office for a conference being held this month in Bonn. The highlight of the conference will choosing a new UNESCO World Heritage Site. For the occasion,  DW produced a multimedia website Wege zum Welterbe that traces a virtual path across all World Heritage Sites in Germany.

Africa

DW and Nigerian broadcaster Channels Television have signed an extensive cooperation agreement.
The new partnership will feature live broadcasts with a DW market reporter from the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and four weekly interviews with DW correspondents covering current German and European issues in society and politics. Channels Television has the widest broadcasting range in Nigeria.

 

 

 

Latin America

DW presented the winners of a multimedia journalism competition with their prizes in Colombia at an awards ceremony held at DW’s Colombian partner station, Señal Colombia, in Bogotá. The contest received a lot of attention from Colombian media and the awards ceremony was attended by many prominent journalists and media producers. Two grand prize winners received a trip to Bonn for the Global Media Forum and four others also received prizes. Around 60 participants competed in the contest which was centered on environmental and ecological issues. The contest ran from the end of last year to April and was divided into video and print categories.

Asia

DW has a new web TV partner in India. Zenga TV, one of India’s leading portals for TV live streams will now carry the English-language channel, DW. The channel is also available via Zenga on mobile devices. The service currently has 21 million registered subscribers.

Indonesia’s largest pay-TV platform, Indovision, is now including DW in its expanded IPTV service, Playmedia. The provider expects to draw 1.5 million new subscribers with the service.

The Taiwanese cable provider Digidom will now carry the English-language channel, DW. The provider delivers local and international TV channels to Taipei.

Europe

DW and the Russian search engine Rambler.ru have expanded their ongoing cooperation. Rambler, one of the Russia’s top three most popular web portals and a longtime DW premium partner, now includes a selection of news teasers from DW’s Russian website on its news platform. In March the links drew around 600,000 visits to DW’s Russian website in two days.

A compact web version of DW’s Russian news magazine Geofaktor has also been well received by Russian-speaking audiences. The 10-minute online format was recently created as a response to the increased demand for information in regions affected by the current political and social tension between Russia and Ukraine. It took only three days for the format to go from concept to reality– an excellent cooperative achievement for DW’s editorial, distribution and multimedia departments. The modified Geofaktor receives between 30,000 and 100,000 views every day.

Asia

The Indonesian DTH provider BiG TV is now broadcasting DW around the clock. The English language channel from DW is included in each of BiG TV’s five basic programming packages. The provider bundles 177 channels from all over the world and broadcasts them via satellite to subscribers everywhere in Indonesia. In the next two years, the company estimates it will reach 300,000 subscribers.

Noor Communications from Lahore, Pakistan is a new DW partner. Located in Pakistan’s second largest city, the station provides around 55,000 households with DW’s English TV programming.
