DW has a new partner for digital television in Malaysia. Asian Broadcasting Network (ABN) started broadcasting DW in February. The digital cable provider has around 500 channels and is working on becoming Malaysia’s second largest digital TV provider. They are trying to acquire 500,000 customers by the end of the year.

DW is also now available around the clock in Tokyo with NEW IT Venture (NITV). The newly-founded Japanese IPTV provider will be broadcasting DW programming in English.

In Pakistan, DW’s English TV channel is now being offered in the Sindh province. DW recently signed an agreement with Orient Multimedia Cable Network und Sky Cable TV Network.

 

Europe

DW has expanded its online presence in the Ukraine by acquiring a new premium partner. DW content has been available on Ukr.Pravda since February 23. The website features news and information in Russian and Ukrainian and receives approximately 260,000 visits each day. It is currently second in the “News & Media” category from LiveInternet.ru. DW content – including full-length articles and links – can be found in a special section for international mass media on Ukr.Pravda. All articles appear with the DW logo and are prominently promoted on the homepage.

 

 

America
OPMA in Mexico has agreed to take on 185 hours of programming from DW Transtel to enhance their lineup for a new channel that will be available nationwide via terrestrial satellite. The agreement will run two years and officials from OPMA are already interested in further programming from DW – especially by contributing to World Stories and working on the coproduction Claves.

Africa
A new partnership in Ghana is making it possible for MTN Ghana mobile subscribers to download and listen to Learning by Ear and other programming on their mobile handsets. All of the programming will be available in English and Hausa as on-demand content.

Asia
DW has a new partner in Pakistan in the politically-charged province of Pakhtoonkhwa, near the border to Afghanistan – with Nine Six International Radio Network. Nine Six will take on Urdu magazines from DW covering science, health, lifestyle and the environment. Nine Six has two studios in the Pakhtoonkhwa province and one in Islamabad.

Also in Pakistan, Smile FM 66.6 has started broadcasting news from DW in Islamabad. The young, local radio station is PEMRA-certified and will also include an Urdu teaser box on their website.

Ashiq Cable Network and Max-I Cable have signed agreements to include DW in their networks. The two cable partners in Lahore will broadcast DW’s all-English channel.

Europe
The Latvian station LTV7 started broadcasting five DW shows last month. From Monday through Friday, Euromaxx Highlights, Global 3000, Drive it, In Good Shape and Tomorrow Today will be shown in English. LTV7 is available throughout Latvia via digital satellite, Sirius Satellite, cable and several online platforms.

Twenty radio stations in Pakistan have picked up a series of German language courses from Deutsche Welle. “German – Why not?” was broadcast for the first time yesterday and the 26-episode series will continue until January 2012 on radio stations throughout the country. Included are the metropolitan areas of Islamabad and Lahore as well as many rural areas. Although it is considered one of the most-loved second languages in Pakistan, there is a lack of German language courses. DW hopes to fill in these gaps.The course will be broadcast every Monday at 10:00 am local time.

Pakistan’s largest private radio network, Radio FM 100, is now integrating news from Deutsche Welle into its line-up. News from DW’s Urdu service will be broadcast eight times daily, as well as including several magazines and English-language programming.

Nadeem Siddiqui, DW’s sales representative in Pakistan, is convinced this partnership will lead to success. “This step wil definitelyl increase DW’s brand recognition. DW is the first international broadcaster to sign such a major cooperation agreement for news in Pakistan. That puts us a step ahead of the competition.”

FM 100 has quickly become one of the largest radio networks in Pakistan, with coverage in major cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Hyderabad. The station is also looking to expand into Multan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Abbottabad and Rahim Yar.
