Another season of Jojo
Deutsche Welle launched its second season of “Jojo sucht das Glück” today at the International German Olympics (IDO) in Frankfurt. The innovative language-learning web soap is designed to give younger people an interesting look at life, love and language… German style. The first season premiered in July 2010 and has assembled an impressive fan base since then. The Jojo fan page on Facebook also gives German students insights into the life of their favorite German exchange student. The concept won over the jury of the German Network of E-Learning Protagonists (D-ELAN) and the association honored Jojo with its innovation prize at the start of 2011 – calling it a “well-rounded e-learning package with custom-tailored use of various media and learning formats”.
Andre Moeller, who is in charge of DW’s German courses, thinks that highlighting an international relationship is a great way to make learning grammar and vocabulary fun. In season two, they will also be exploring more cultural information.
Focusing on education
Education for all – that is UNESCO’s central aim when it comes to the world’s school systems. But where do we stand today? DW has developed a new multimedia project that examines innovative education initiatives and the areas where the international community still has much work to do. With “Education for all – Five bloggers, five countries, one dialogue”, young people discuss the state of education in their home countries as well as their own experiences in the school system. DW is relying on five bloggers from Iraq, Germany, Argentina, Russia and Kenya to provide discussion points for the online community. Interested? Join the discussion today.
New platform for musicians and music-lovers
Every year, DW highlights the work of young musicians by inviting youth orchestras around the world to perform at Bonn’s Beethovenfest. Now, DW is taking it one step further with its DW Music Campus page on Facebook. It offers the latest information on music and cultural exchange in Germany and provides a platform for musicians – especially young musicians – to exchange ideas and opinions.
DW is looking for people to join in on the conversation – so whether you have participated in the Orchestra Campus project in the past, or are just interested in classical music, go to Facebook and get involved.
Or just listen – DW offers a full range of podcasts from the Beethovenfest performances.
