Africa

Eco@Afrique, the French-language edition of DW’s popular environmental conservation show is expanding its presence in Africa with new broadcasting partnerships in countries including Mali and Burkina Faso.

On the radio, DW’s educational radio soap opera Crime Fighters has been picked up by new broadcasting partners in Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast and Mali. And in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one of the country’s largest stations, Top Congo FM, will soon be broadcasting one hour of DW’s French radio programming and two hours in Swahili, along with DW’s Bundesliga coverage.

Asia

IDX Channel is Indonesia’s largest bilingual markets and finance channel. They recently acquired the DW English-language magazines Arts21, CheckIn and Made in Germany. IDX Channel reaches a combined audience of 20 million on satellite, IPTV and online.

Charoen Cable TV Network in Thailand will soon include DW’s flagship English channel in its basic programming package. The cable network reaches 600,000 households.

Cambodia’s only English-language news website, Khmer Times, has started including English-language DW news and feature articles.

Latin America

A new cooperation with DW partners in Mexico is focused on enhancing cultural content from Europe for local audiences. Every Monday, a culture expert in Berlin is appearing in live segments broadcast on the Mexican public broadcaster, Canal 22 and the private broadcaster El Financiero.

Latin America

DW will be opening a correspondents’ office in Bogotá, Colombia in 2018. The new office will add to DW’s reporting across Latin America. The plans were announced during a meeting between DW’s Director General Peter Limbourg and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos. The president praised the quality of DW’s reporting and is looking forward to welcoming DW’s correspondents. With around 14 million TV households, Colombia is DW’s second-largest market in Latin America after Mexico.

Online videos from DW are being posted by Brazilian partner Terra using Facebook’s cross posting function. It is the first time DW content has been used in a cross posting partnership. The cooperation has already registered an increase in total views for DW videos posted on Terra. Terra posts DW videos on its Facebook page and names DW as a source and links to DW websites.

Europe

Following a new partnership, DW’s English-language TV channel will have increased availablity in Scandinavia starting in September 2017. DW’s partner channel, Canal Digital from the Telenor Group, is available to 430,000 households in Norway, 255,000 in Sweden, 46,000 Denmark and 34,000 in Finland. The partnership also puts DW’s English TV channel in many hotels across Scandinavia.

Spiegel TV is carrying DW’s German language programs Euromaxx, Made in Germany, Projekt Zukunft and Reporter on its web TV lineup. The cooperation is expected to be expanded in the near future.

Asia

DW’s articles in English and Hindi are now available on the popular Indian news aggregator app, InShorts. The app features articles shortened to 60 words and has 10 million active users.

DW News is being broadcast once a day during the week on Hong Kong’s free-to-channel ViuTVsix. DW’s English-language channel is also being included in the basic package of Indonesian pay-TV company SMV Freeview. The channel is also being included in the basic package of Hyderabad, Pakistan-based cable station Hyderabad Cable Communication.

Latin America

Animal Político, a popular news website in Mexico, has recently started including Spanish-language articles and video content from DW. With broad coverage of important news and events, Animal Político promotes well-informed decision making from active citizens in Mexico. The website is a strong partner for DW, with news and information that promotes transparency and helps fight corruption and over 7 million monthly visits.

Telefuturo, a Pay-TV provider in Paraguay is showing a series of Spanish-language magazines from DW (Español). En forma, Enlaces, Europa en concierto, Patrimonio mundial and Visión futuro will be available to around 260,000 households around the country.

Asia

The ICTA (Indonesia Cable TV Association) and DW have agreed to a contract that allows 150 cable companies across Indonesia to broadcast DW. Together, ICTA partners broadcast to around 2 million subscribers. In May, 75 ICTA channels had already begun broadcasting DW.

DW and DW (Deutsch) will be available in libraries, universities and schools in New Zealand via eTV, a non-profit IPTV provider.

Butt Cable TV network in Rawalpindi, Pakistan is a new DW partner offering DW to 6,500 customers.

Europe

The DW documentary, Afro.Germany, is now being shown online by Spiegel TV. There are also plans for showing DW programs Made in Germany and Reporter.

Madsack, a leading German media group is now including DW videos, articles and picture galleries as a integral part of its online content portfolio. Madsack currently owns regional German newspapers with a combined monthly readership of 2.5 million and 4.6 million online users.

DW connects top German companies with Asian media

At the first RISE – Insights for Leaders event, DW brought together top representatives from Indonesian business and media in Jakarta for the opportunity to share ideas about what is driving Asian infrastructure and development.

At the event in, hosted cooperation with local partner MNC Sky Division, Dr. Roland Busch, a member of the managing board at Siemens, gave an intriguing talk “Smart Solutions for Asia’s megacities” about the future of urban development in Asia. The event provided around 50 Indonesian business leaders and media representatives with a unique opportunity to have first hand contact with one of the world’s leading infrastructure technology developers. The DW business program, Made in Germany, was also featured at the event.

The CEO of MNC, Rudy Tanoesoedibjo, said that the event addressed the challenges facing development in Indonesia while inspiring new ideas. He added that the partnership between Dw and MNC was “raised to a new level.”

RISE strengthens DW’s position as a partner for dialogue in Asian markets and is a perfect example of how DW connects people with information they can use to develop and improve their communities.

It is the first in a series of events that brings a sought-after German perspective on global economics and development to an audience of high-level Asian business leaders. Executives from top German companies will join the next RISE event planned for Delhi, India next month.

Online

DW’s online news content is now available in 20 languages on the news aggregator app Google Newsstand. Video content, where available, is also included as a YouTube channel along with the full-length news reports. Previously, DW had only been available in English on Google Newsstand.

The news app Bundle now includes content from DW Turkish. The app, which was developed in Turkey, provides users with news coming from 4,000 sources in 28 countries. Released in 2014, the app generates around 3.5 million visits every month.

Africa

DW has increased its reach in Kenya with a series of expanded partnerships. Hope Channel Kenya and Ebru Africa TV, both with nationwide broadcasting coverage, are now carrying a wide-selection of DW’s English television programming. Shine FM, a radio station based at Daystar University in Nairobi, is now broadcasting selected DW radio programming on VHF and livestream in English and Kiswahili. New Kenyan radio partners Wikwatyo FM in Kitui and Kisimaa FM in Kisii are broadcasting DW Kiswahili radio programs like Habari za Africa, Afya, Michezo and Vjana tugutuke.

In Tanzania, DW has also increased television and radio coverage with expanded partnerships. One of Tanzania’s largest media companies, AZAM media group, has increased its cooperation with DW and is now broadcasting one hour of DW Kiswahili radio programming every day on its new radio station U-FM. AZAM TV has been carrying a selection of  DW television programs since 2013. Also in Tanzania, Channel Ten from the Africa Media Group Ltd. is a new DW partner. The news and information channel now broadcasts the DW programs Conflict Zone, In Good Shape, Tomorrow Today, Made in Germany, Kick off! and Kino. Channel Ten is available via Intelsat 906 to audiences across Africa.

Asia

DW has a new cable TV partner in Vietnam. NetViet will be broadcasting the English-language programs In Good Shape, Drive it! and Discover Germany. The cable provider reaches 8 million people in Vietnam.

The national television network of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), is now broadcasting the DW programs Global 3000, Shift and Treasures of the World. According to their own estimates, Rupavahini reaches more than 4 million households in Sri Lanka.

In Pakistan, DW’s English-language channel will be broadcast in its entirety on the basic package of the Karachi-based cable provider East&West Entertainment Cable Network.
