DW has a new, powerful programming partner in the United States: Univision. The most important Spanish-language media company in the USA will be including online content from DW in the future. Univision.com has more than 7 million visitors per month and is the most popular Spanish website. In addition, Univision Noticias is also the leading Spanish-language news feed, with 100,000 “regular” users and 200,000 mobile users daily. This new cooperation highlights DW’s importance among the Hispanic decision makers in the USA.
In Latin America, Multivision in Cuba has expanded its existing partnership with DW to include a total of eight DW programs.
Asia
China Education Television (CETV) will be including a selection of content from the DW Transtel catalog in its lineup for 2014. The station is responsible for supplying Chinese citizens with educational programming. CETV has selected a range of DW programming including everything from science, technology and the environment to arts and culture. The programming will be shown on television as well as two different online platforms.
Africa
DW and DW Akademie recently concluded a successful training course for journlists in Abuja, Nigeria. Select radio partners including Bauchi Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Radio Gotel, Royal FM and Voice of Nigeria were provided a course on “Gender sensitive reporting”.
Mobile
DW has relaunched its website for mobile users to provide users with more photo, video and audio content. In addition, the interactivity of the mobile platform has been expanded to include social media as well as automatic language recognition.

Asia
The Sydney-based culture channel Ovation is now a DW partner in Australia. The 15-year-old television channel is carried by all major providers and has a large fan base with programs that feature art, film, opera, history, culture and drama. Ovation will be adding Euromaxx, Arts 21, Europe in Concert, Discover Germany and Treasures of the World.
DW is also being broadcast now on the business and finance news channel, Business Plus, in Pakistan. It is the only channel of its kind in the country with a focus on business and economic issues. Euromaxx, DW’s lifestyle magazine will be aired daily during the evening program as an addition to the lifestyle segment. There are plans for more cooperation with DW in the future. The channel is broadcast nationwide via the Paksat-1 satellite and is carried by all major cable providers allowing for a potential audience of 12 million households in Pakistan. Outside of Pakistan, the channel is available in 52 countries. Business Plus belongs to the MTL media group.
The Vietnamese news channel VNews will be providing a monthly contribution to DW’s World Stories starting in January 2014. VNews is the television broadcaster of the Vietnam News Agency.
Europe
DW has added a new online partner in Greece. Since the beginning of October, DW has been providing full reports on Greek political and business news that are being featured on the popular business website capital.gr. The website covers finance, business and investment news while providing political analysis and background information. Capital.gr attracts a young audience with an average age of 35 who also have a high level of education and interest in socio-economic issues. The site is visited by around 1,250,000 users in Greece each month.

North America
The website of Radio Canada International’s radio program, Eye on the Arctic, is now a DW partner. Since October, content from DW’s Ice Blog, created by DW editor Irene Quaile, has been featured on the Canadian broadcaster’s website blog. The radio program features issues affecting the Arctic such as climate change. The content is normally limited to contributors from Arctic states– however the quality of the information from DW’s Ice Blog convinced Eye on the Arctic to widen the circle of those allowed to contribute.
Europe
After the discontinuation of its Russian radio service, DW’s presence in Georgia was interrupted. Now after realigning its multimedia content, DW has managed to revive its presence in the country. The first step was the addition of the leading Georgian online news service, News.ge, as a premium partner. News.ge launched English and Russian language news sites on October 1 which both exclusively feature DW news content. More projects in Georgia are currently being prepared.
Asia
DW has added CTH, one of the largest cable TV providers in Thailand, as a partner. The country’s second largest cable provider brings national and international programming to over 2.5 million households. DW’s flagship English channel can now be received 24 hours every day via the new partner’s digital cable network.
DW’s English channel is also now available in Vietnam via DVB-T. The provider, Audio Visual Global (AVG), has also integrated DW into its satellite packet with 350,000 subscribers.
DW has a new partner in Pakistan. Radio Chiltan in Quetta will now be broadcasting DW programming in English and Urdu. The station also broadcasts in regional languages.
Africa
DW has added one of the largest private radio broadcasters in Eastern Zambia as a premium partner. BreezeFM has a range reaching from Eastern Zambia to Western Malawi. Since the beginning of October, the new partner has been taking on content from DW’s worldwide English language radio programming and also broadcasts the popular program, Africa link from DW’s English for Africa service everyday via VHF.
DW’s World Stories has a new partner in Mozambique. The private broadcaster, TIM (Televisão Independente de Moçambique) has been airing reports from World Stories since September and will be contributing their own stories as well.
Online
As a new part of the longtime cooperation between Sony and DW in the area of Smart TV, Sony will now be including DW content on its mobile devices. The news App Socialife comes preinstalled on cell-phones, tablets and notebooks and news reports from DW in 12 languages will be integrated into the App and prominently displayed.
On October 15, Albanian was added to DW’s Media Center. That increases the number of available languages to 26.
The multimedia project, Wagner 200 – Bayreuth Backstage , has been available online in English, Spanish and Russian since October 15.
DW’s online cooperation with @ Verdade Mozambique is proving to be a quick success. In just a month, the number of clicks on DW’s Portuguese for Africa website has clearly increased

Latin America
DW’s Portuguese science magazine Futurando now being broadcast nationwide in Brazil. The educational broadcaster Canal Futura will begin broadcasting DW’s successful Portuguese language science program Futurando on October 10. Canal Futura belongs to Globo, the largest media group in Brazil, and is the first private broadcaster in the country exclusively dedicated to educational programming. The channel has a technical range capable of reaching a potential audience of 94 million people in Brazil through terrestrial broadcasting in Rio de Janeiro and nationwide coverage on satellite, cable and affiliate stations.
A merger uniting the Colombian broadcaster and DW (Latinoamérica) partner UNE-ESM with the digital services provider Tigo has created formidable new presence on the Colombian media market putting the conglomeration in competition with Claro for first place.
Asia
Starting this month, DW’s English language news magazine Journal will be available nationwide in Afghanistan on Saba TV. The private broadcaster focuses on educational programming aimed at a young audience of information seekers. The channel belongs to the Saba Group, the operators of Radio Nawa which currently broadcasts the daily radio news program from DW in Pashto.
A new contract with the Indian public broadcaster Doordashan will place Manthan, a DW Hindi production, on six more of its regional channels.
The Taiwanese IPTV provider Vee Time is now offering DW’s flagship channel in English around the clock on Vee TV.
Middle East
Al Jazeera’s documentary channel has acquired a total of 99 hours of programming from DW Transtel’s portfolio. New programming aimed at the channel’s male target audience including extreme sports and motor sports will accompany formats covering science, medicine, nature, the environment and economic development. The documentary film channel from Al Jazeera broadcasts primarily in Arabic and can be received worldwide via satellite. Their core target area covers the Arab world.
Eastern Europe
Commentary and interviews from DW’s online service in Russian are now being featured on the popular Russian Internet portal Rambler.ru. The new partner website boasts 21 million visitors every month placing it among the most visited Russian language websites on the Internet. Since the beginning of the partnership with Rambler, DW Russian has recorded a clear increase in the number of online users.
The Ukrainian online news portal, Facenews.ua, which was founded in June, has also integrated content from DW’s Russian and Ukrainian news departments into a DW content box on their website.
Africa
DW content is now being featured on Radio Tumaini and Tumaini Television as well as the group’s online portal. In addition, a Global 3000 content box is now featured on Radio WA’s homepage in Uganda. Radio WA has been broadcasting DW’s English radio program Africa Link since 2012.
Online
DW’s international news and current affairs content is available in four languages on the world’s largest free online television website FilmOn.com. Alki David, the eccentric and controversial billionaire owner of FilmOn.com said they were delighted to able include DW’s “authoritative and highly engaging” content on the pioneering web service which provides television content streamed online and on-demand. The partnership brings DW into the fast growing market of on-demand internet TV and into an exciting new area of distribution. FilmOn has 45,000 hours of total video, all which are updated on a rolling basis.

Asia
The Forever Group have picked up 170 hours of DW Transtel programming. Myanmar’s largest media company and the country’s first Pay TV provider, chose a wide variety of programming to be broadcast on the Readers Channel, a free-to-air educational channel that encourages audiences to read more. This contract represents the largest volume of programming that has ever been sold by DW Transtel in Myanmar. The Forever Group has also been acquiring DW’s complete programming line-up since 2011.
Audiences all over Afghanistan can now watch DW’s Euromaxx, Arts.21 and Drive it on one the country’s leading television stations, OneTV (1-TV). This rapidly growing private broadcaster, newly founded by Afghani investors hoping to promote principals of human rights and freedom of speech, specializes in covering news and current affairs. It has a very good reputation in Afghanistan with a target audience of young, educated information seekers. On the Afghani TV popularity index, OneTV ranks third.
Latin America
It’s primetime for DW in Uruguay as DW (Latinoamérica) grows more and more popular. The terrestrial broadcaster Río Uruguay TV is now a part-time programming partner broadcasting the DW formats Claves, Al volante and Visión futuro Sunday evenings from 8:00 to 10:00 pm. The broadcasting area covers the city of Fray Bentos and the province of Río Negro. Around 200,000 viewers can receive Río Uruguay TV and this new partnership features DW in the evening primetime slot.
Middle East
DW has forged a new partnership in Lebanon. A memorandum of understanding was recently signed with the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC Group) that is paving the way for cooperation with DW’s World Stories. The Lebanese broadcaster will soon be contributing segments to the successful DW show. DW is also confident that cooperation will be expanding in the near future to include program acquisitions from DW (Arabia). The Lebanese newspaper As-Safir has also begun to include full articles and video boxes from DW on its online platform. As-Safir is a pan-Arab publication with readers from all over the Arab world.
DW has also taken steps to increase its social media footprint in Iraq. The very popular news and social media site Shakwmakw, which boasts 430,000 Facebook fans, will soon be posting new links to selected DW articles on a daily basis. The website was started during the Iraqi civil war as an online forum with the goal of encouraging positive exchange and communication between Iraqis regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds. Another popular social media platform biraqi, with over 350,000 Facebook fans, has signed a cooperation agreement with DW and are integrating links and teasers into their online content.

The Kick off! Competition is now off and running in German, English, Spanish and Arabic – a great chance for soccer fans to show their knowledge of the German Bundesliga. DW is also now offering a free Tour of the German Parliament with a new multimedia project that takes you on an virtual tour of the plenary chamber in Berlin.
