In cooperation with premium partner LINK TV, a two-hour DW special analyzing the “State of the Union Address” was broadcast nationwide in the US. The DW special delivered a unique European perspective on the US president’s speech. LINK TV specializes in international programming and is broadcast to an estimated 34 million households around the US.
Latin America
Over 40 DW reports from the Berlinale Film Festival and the Munich Security Conference were broadcast in prime time by DW Premium Now partners with the largest audience shares in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru. The partners praised the smooth and efficient workflow of their DW distribution partners.
Asia
DW has a new online partner in Nepal. The English-language news website Kathmandu Tribune will soon begin including online content from DW English.
DW’s Bogotá office increases objective news coverage in Latin America
With its new correspondents’ office in Bogotá, Colombia, DW will expand its coverage of important news and issues affecting countries across Latin and South America. The new office comes as DW’s television audience grows in the region along with DW’s Spanish-language online content generating more page views.
DW’s reporting in Latin America can offer unique coverage of issues that are not often discussed in local media such as state corruption or the oppression of indigenous peoples. As Colombia starts to find its way out of an ongoing civil conflict, DW can provide comprehensive and objective coverage of the peace process.
Along with Colombia, DW’s Bogotá correspondents will be providing coverage of news and events from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. The office will be run by Ofelia Harms, a DW journalist from Mexico, who is a former DW trainee.
The president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, welcomed DW in a Twitter post and wished DW success with its work.
DW’s Bogotá office builds on DW’s partner-based strategy in Latin America and will contribute to its continued success. There are currently over 800 DW partners across Latin America that carry and rebroadcast DW’s news and entertainment content.

Europe
The compact online version of DW’s Russian-language news program Geofaktor has been a big success since it was launched in mid-March. The 13th broadcast alone was watched 430,000 times. Almost all of the video content was accessed via DW’s online Russian-language media center. The majority of viewers were directed there via a banner-ad campaign on the popular Russian news website, news.mail.ru. On YouTube, Geofaktor episodes were accessed an additional 50,000 times during the second half of March.
The ongoing geo-political tensions in Ukraine have created a high demand for unbiased news coverage delivered in Russian. This is made clear by the burgeoning rise in page visits on DW Russian. The number rose by nearly 4 million visits between February and March 2014. A large amount of that traffic came via DW’s Ukrainian online partner, ukr.net, as well as the Russian search engine, Rambler.ru. Also In March, visits to DW Ukrainan doubled from 1 to 2.2 million, with most of that traffic coming via ukr.net.
North America
After a series of extensive and lengthy negotiations, a new transmission contract has been successfully arranged between DW and Canada’s largest cable provider, Rogers Cable. Rogers will now carry the English-language flagship channel, DW, and the German-language channel, DW (Amerika). Previously, only DW had been offered as a part of the English news package. Starting at the end of May, DW (Amerika) will be offered à la carte as a single subscription channel. Rogers brings DW’s quality programming to a large audience of political and business leaders with a coverage area that includes Canada’s capital Ottawa and its largest city, Toronto.
South America
The Peruvian online news portal, Peru.com, is a new DW partner and will regularly include full articles from DW. The website belongs to the El Comercio group, which occupies 75 percent of the market share in Peruvian print media. A tracking code developed by DW’s market and media research will count how often DW articles are accessed.

Africa
A selection of educational programming from DW Transtel was purchased by Channel ED, a new knowledge and education channel based in South Africa. Channel ED was launched in December 2013 and is produced in Johannesburg at Urban Brew Studios. The channel is a part of a programming package offered by the Pan-African digital satellite broadcaster DStv, which is operated by the South African digital media company, MultiChoice. Channel ED targets young adults and will broadcast to 49 countries throughout Africa.
Asia
The Pakistani business news channel Business Plus has just purchased an extensive programming package from DW Transtel. The channel has also carried the popular DW format Euromaxx since November 2013. Starting in 2014, Business Plus will be broadcasting nationwide 50 hours of DW Transtel’s travel and culture programming. Around 12 million households in Pakistan have access to the channel.
DW has also added three new partners in the Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. New Rakaposhi, Garden Cable Network and Shaheen Cable Network provide television service to around 10,000 households in the city of Gilgit. The Pakistani channel Zaiqa TV will also be broadcasting DW’s lifestyle and fitness program In Good Shape via satellite to a potential audience of 12 million households.
Latin America
DW has a new TV partner in Peru. Since October 2013, RPP TV, the news and information channel from Gruppo RPP has been broadcasting DW’s En forma, Claves, Enlaces and Reporteros en el mundo. Around 1 million subscribers of the Pay-TV service, Moviestar TV currently pick up RPP TV. The channel will also be available via terrestrial television until the end of 2014, which should considerably increase the exposure of DW (Latinoamérica) to potential audiences in Peru.
Europe
The mobile livestream from DW (Europe) is now available in the Republic of Moldova on the country’s leading mobile carrier, Orange Moldova. Since the end of 2013 content from DW (Europe) can be uploaded on iOS and Android mobile devices with the Orange TV App. DW is also available on Orange Moldova’s television news package and online at tv.orange.md.
Online
The complete video archives from DW in German, English and Spanish can now be accessed on Google devices via a Smart-TV App.
DW(English) is also available on Google Newsstand and Google Play Kiosk. Google Newsstand for Android mobile phones can be downloaded at the Google Play Store.

DW programming is now available on Xunlei-Kankan, one of the largest online video platforms in China. The platform has integrated clips from the magazines Global Ideas and Future Now, which have been translated into Chinese, as well as clips in English from shows like Arts.21, Discover Germany, Global 3000, In Good Shape, Made in Germany, Euromaxx, Drive It! und Tomorrow Today. Xunlei-Kankan has more than 260 million users.
In Pakistan, DW content is now available on smartphones via UFone. The provider now offers its more than 2 million mobile customers DW’s English television program.
Learning by Ear is now available for mobile users in Afghanistan with Afghan Wireless (AWCC). The mobile provider has more than 4 million subscribers throughout Afghanistan and is offering the series as content via its interactive voice response (IVR) system.
Latin America
DW has acquired another partner for its Spanish television channel in Latin America with Claro Peru. The second-largest television station in Peru will now include DW (Latinoamérica) in its digital TV package. Claro is part of the América Móvil group – the leading telecommunications provider in Latin America with more than 300 million customers.
Africa / Middle East
Shahid.net and DU are now featuring content from DW (Arabia) in their programming lineup. The two IPTV platforms are new to the media landscape in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
English episodes of Learning by Ear are now available on Vodafone Ghana. By working with Yassu, the Learning by Ear content will be available on all mobile phones as audio on demand.
