DW boosts airtime in Kenya

A new partnership with Standard Group Ltd. will make DW radio and television programming available to even more viewers and listeners in Kenya. The new agreement will make DW’s Swahili radio programming available on Radio Maisha and English television programming on KTN. Radio Maisha has been rebroadcasting DW’s Swahili programming since January 15, with one programming hour being aired five days a week from Monday to Friday. In addition, 10 minutes of news is being broadcast on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, DW’s English television programming will also be broadcast on KTN – a privately run television station which broadcasts throughout Kenya in English. A promotional campaign will accompany the partnership featuring bill-boards, radio and newspaper ads to introduce DW programming to the Kenyan audience.

Recognition for “max x”

A Euromaxx segment has been given recognized by the Accolade Competition. At the end of November, the strange world of max x was given an Award of Excellence in the “comedy series” category. With max x, DW has found a clever way to dissect modern society. Sometimes he has to wrestle with the technical pitfalls of his mobile phone, and other times it only takes a folding chair to drive him crazy. He’s just a normal guy trying to cope with the challenges of modern life.

New programming for Russia

DW has made further progress in the development of programming for Russia with its new television magazine “Geofactor”. DW’s Russian editorial team is responsible for producing the new show that will be broadcast every Saturday on Expert-TV.

The weekly magazine is 15 minutes long and was premiered on November 3. It covers politics and business, with a focus on the relationship between Russia, Germany and the rest of the European Union. Content comes from existing DW material and new content developed explicitly for “Geofactor” viewers.

Expert-TV reaches around 19 million viewers throughout Russia.

New television magazine in Bulgaria

DW is continuing ist expansion into the television market in central and southeastern Europe with its latest show “Evropa na Fokus” in Bulgaria. The 20-minute news magazine will be broadcast nationwide on BNT and is based on content from DW’s European Journal, Made in Germany, People and Politics and Arts.21. The show is being hosted by Yordanka Yordanova.

Following Polish, Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Turkish and Serbian editions, the Bulgarian show is DW’s ninth to be produced in its Bonn studios for the central and southeastern Europe target area.

Market roundup: November 2012

Latin America

DW’s Distribution team continued its successful year in Latin America at Jornadas in Buenos Aires. With the new Spanish-language channel DW (Latinoamérica), DW representatives were able to work out agreements with more than 20 new partners from Argentina, Uruguay and Peru. The channel has been airing since February and is tailored to the Latin American market.

Asia

Metro TV is the first partner in Indonesia to be included in the DW series World Stories. Metro TV is a nationwide news channel that was launched 2000. Metro is broadcast from Jakarta with a network of 53 regional stations and reaches more than 3 million viewers throughout Indonesia. It is also available via cable and DTH. Metro has been broadcasting DW television programming since 2001.

Also in Indonesia, Banten TV has become the fifth partner to include the new DW series Inovator into its lineup.

Mobile

News feeds from DW will be integrated into the next generation of Lumia smartphones from Nokia that have Windows Phone 7 and 8. The news feeds will be pre-installed on the Reading app and available in English, German and Russian.
